it is safe for you to use shredded newspaper for litter---it is used as same after kitties get declawed ans sometimes after neutering......newsprint is made of vegetable oil based ink and paper ia just wood pulp--fiber....

i did volunteer work at a humane society and they used newspaper for the cats and kittens.most of the time kittens or cats wont try to eat something where they go to the bathroom,but if they do it wont do anything to them.

I had a kitten and he ate the granual litter. I used newspaper and she stopped eating it.

Yes... it is absolutely safe. They'll try to taste it, maybe even take a nibble of two. But paper is organic - made from plants (trees) and will not cause any adverse effects when ingested by any living creature.

Newspaper is fine to use so long as you change it regularly. It WILL smell much worse though, as a warning. If their already litterbox trained, they wouldn't be stupid enough to eat were they go to the bathroom.

Call your local newspaper and ask what kind of dyes they use. Vegetable dyes are completely safe. Anything else I probably wouldn't use. Only use B&W, not color.

they do have cat litter made from recycle newspaper and its called yesterday days news cat litter, i had to use it for my kitty when i got her DE-clawed,

it will not hurt them to eat the news paper it will actually act as a laxative in most cases

With the chemicals in inks noadays I wouldn't chance it. But, if it'll help you to be really sure, talk to your vet about it.
