Here's the thing. We are business associates and we went out on one date tonight. He thinks it went great and is head over heels, while I don't and am not. I need him to help with my business. He actually reminds me a lot of my x-husband and there are many reasons why that didn't work. What do I do?

Tell him you had a nice time, but in thinking it over you concluded it is best not to mix business with pleasure. Tell him you appreciate his interest, but for the sake of both your careers, it would be best not to be involved.

In the future, make it a point NEVER to date a coworker. It will save you a lot of grief over the long run.

Well since he is a business associate you want to be careful. Just not calling or talking to him will obviously not work. Be gentle. Tell him that its just not the right time for you to be dating and you're afraid he wants something more than you can give. Of course, that only really works if it's true. You could try to tell him that you just didn't feel that spark. You think that hes a great person, but he deserves to be someone who is really into him.

Good luck!

This is a tough one...you mixed business with pleasure, so this is going to be very difficult. Normally, if you're disinterested and the guy is ga ga for you, you have to pull away, give him the cold shoulder, not answer phone calls 'til he goes away, but in this case, you work with the guy. What to do?
You could just tell him the truth, say you made a mistake in thinking it would work, but you are simply not interested. Or say you need to concentrate on your work for now. He may be confused, but it's better to give it to him straight if you have to see him on a daily basis. He will move on.
Good luck!

My father used to have a rather crude but effective saying about one not sh!tting where one eats. In other words, you should never date anyone you work with. Now you're stuck and you can't ignore him because you need him. You're just gonna have to be direct and honest, hope for the best, and live with the consequences.

tell him that going on this date made you realize you still have issues in the ex husband department. he doesn't need to know the issue is that he's doing a dead on impression of him! just try to be straight as possible with him. he'll appreciate it. just hope that your business has as much to offer him as he has to offer it!

See, you know know why people say stay away from business associates. Normally, you could've just not answered his calls. But now you have to actually talk to him about it. He might be offended anyway. Sucks.

Tell him the truth. Tell him you just didn't feel the connection, reminds you of your ex husband and that you would still like to be friends. and you appreciate him taking the time to try though. hopefully it won't be akward at work.

Best excuse: you are not ready for a relationship but would like a friendship. Maybe later on you may develop an interest in him.

Honesty is the ONLY way to go here without really causing a mess up with your work. BE TRUTHFUL- TELL HIM YOU HAD A NICE TIME BUT..........................YOU REALIZED THAT YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP MEANS MORE TO YOU THAN ANY FUTURE PHYSICAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM-- THAT YOU FEEL IT WOULD JEOPARDIZE YOUR OTHER TWO RELATIONSHIPS AND YOU CAN'T THINK OF HIM IN "THAT WAY". HONEST, SHORT, SWEET, AND WITHOUT THE AXE....GOOD LUCK
