How does a racer that places in 30th position make more than a racer that placed 5th in a race. How does this system work. I'm lost. Just look at the results of every race and their is always someone at the bottom taking home alot more money than someone in the top 10. Why is this?

This deals with each drivers contract with his sponsors and with contingency monies paid out by the various companies that are sponsoring events. The product decals on the fenders are the contingency sponsors on they pay a fixed amount to the driver/team for the advertisement on the car, drivers uniform, transporter etc........

There is a lot of different things that go into purse distribution. Each place gets a set amount, and depending on things like contingency awards/sponsors and other things, some drivers will make more than others. Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, David Ragan, Jamie McMurray, Dale Jr, etc... are some of the drivers who get larger portions of the purse. Non-top 35 drivers, Robby Gordon, Carl Edwards, David Stremme, Greg Biffle are among some of the lesser paid.

That is a good question,it's complicated as all hell,I bet a lot of the drivers don't even fully understand it.
