Well, your first answer is, fix him. What have you been waiting for? However, that won't entirely help, since you've waited so long. Second, rip up your carpet and put in new carpet. He's always going to pee where he smells his own urine. You could have one room professionally cleaned to see if that will help before committing to such a project.

First of all get him fixed.... this will help reduce the spraying and marking of territory. Then get a spray bottle and fill it full of white vinegar and spray all the areas that he normally would pee in. If it is really bad you may need to douce the areas a few times before it takes complete effect, and spray a couple times a week until he learns not to pee in the house. We are trying this with our dog and it is the best that we have found and works wonderfully. Hope it works for you.

At that age it can be much more difficult and will-- unfortunately-- take a LOT of time and attention from you. It does no good to find the accident 30 minutes later and try to reprimand the dog. Dogs do not think in terms of right wrong, but DO have strong natural desires to please an authority figure. The best thing you can do is watch and cathc the dog IN THE ACT or within the first minute of the accident and then take him immediately outside to a specific spot (the added consistency of a designated area of the lawn will help). Then praise and reward your dog with a treat. Be overly cheesy in your praising your dog will really respond. this may take weeks or months but in time he will figure it out.
Good luck!

My cousin's dog is fixed and he still trys to mark his territory. I don't think that is the best solution, especially after 5 years. You should definately steam clean if you have carpets. Another helpful tip that I learned from my dog trainer is to: place some pennies in a coke can and when you see your dog lift his leg, rattle the can. The loud noise will stop him in the act and he'll get the message. If you normally have dog bowls out with food and water, you should remove them. Only have them out at specific times when you know that you will have time to let your dog out to pee. If your dog doesn't complete his business outside and is instead goofing off, then consider crating him when you go back inside. Then go back out in 30 minutes or so. He should learn that he needs to go when you take him out. Also don't let him come back in and gulp more water.
Finally, take time to walk your dog for at least 30 minutes every day. Sometimes dogs are asking for attention. They only want to be with you and they want to do what is natural to them...walking!

My dogs aren't fixed and they are around the same age as yours. I just started training them like a month ago by just taking them out like 3 times a day. They'll get used to it and stop doing it in the house. They actually like to do it outside.

You have no form of communication.. Tie a bell to the door and ring it every time you open the door no matter the reason. Eventually he will learn that ringing the bell will open the door for him. Make sure you let him out every single time he rings no matter what you are doing. If you aren' t available or home, remove the bell.
Also crate train him.. How come you waited this long to worry about it? Get him neutered.

Get your dog fixed.
You need to train your dog to use the restroom outside or on a pee-pad. You should take your dog out right after they eat or play... Get them used to using the restroom outside... Take them out in the morning and evening... It can take a long time to have them do this... If your dog is a house dog please don't just keep them outside without adequate conditions...
