Of all the Starbucks I have ever been to, and I have been to many locations in many different cities and states, I have never heard a peep of gratitude for my gratuity. They are usually very friendly, and it's not that it bothers me; I will continue to tip them regardless, it's just one of those stupid little questions I've always been curious about, and I don't want to be rude and ask them! If you are reading this and think this is the most utterly ridiculous question, I do apologize for wasting the 10-20 seconds of your life--lol!

from our perspective: tips at starbucks are generally not acknowledged. tip jars should not be labelled 'tips' (it's an actual company policy). the jar is not there, don't draw attention to it, if customers should assume that it's for tips then let them (silly yes, but it's part of the whole 'starbucks experience') it is standard to say thank you twice, once at the til when the transaction is completed and the second time when you get your beverage. but receiving / acknowledging tips is not part of the customer service flow.

I make it a point to hand them the tip rather then just putting it in the jar. Because sometimes they don't see you put it in there. Thinking about it now, they really don't say thank you. I don't know why. But the Starbucks I go to they talk my ear off!! I go thur a drive-thur one and if I have to wait at the window while they make my drink, it's like 101 questions. What are you up to today? any plans? oh where do you work? Jeeze, I haven't had my coffee yet and must you know what I have planned? That's what I feel like saying. I just want coffee and not small talk. So try handing them your tip directly see if you get another response.

Bring on the thumbs down but I do not think we should be tipping for a cup of coffee. Every store I go to wants a tip now! The ice cream store wants a tip for putting ice cream in my bowl and handing it to me. The oil change place has a tip jar out now. What's next? Will I need to tip the grocery clerk for ringing up my groceries? The bank teller? Give me a break with the tips!

I'm actually more comfortable when they don't thank people for tips, as long as they are being very friendly otherwise. I think that they do not try to draw attention to the tip jar. Thanking customers for tips draws attention to it. It is there if you want to use it, but they don't expect you too, and they don't try to pressure you to. It's pretty much a place to dump lose change that you don't want to carry around in your pocket after you buy your drink. I don't think they expect paper bills.

cause they expect to be tipped. if you didint they would probably spit in your coffee. they are usually stuck up people who work there and personally why would you tip them in the first place? all they do is make coffee. big freaking deal. do you tip your bag boy at the grocery store? he does a hell of a lot more than the baristas at starbucks do. something to ponder while you choke on your starbucks.

Their tips are different to because your are not giving the tip to the person who made your coffee. You are giving it to everyone who works there and after the money is split it isn't that much.

I guess you've never been to Starbucks 125th St in Manhattan. That's my regular Starbucks, I go there every day, and I tip them every day, and they thank me every day.

maybe they're in a hurry to get to the next customer. Sometimes every second counts in the customer service realm

Maybe they are used to it, they think you should tip them no matter what, or they are just rude.
