I have issues with my big screen TV. I hate it. LOL! It is the biggest thing in the world even though it's not bulky. [60in flat screen]

It seems that no matter what entertainment center it's on [I just made a new one] that our whole living room is overwelmed by it.

I hate big screens but my husband really wanted one so we ended up getting a bigger one a while back.

Any suggestions on how to take the focus from the TV to the homey feel we used to have? Thanks!

Unfortunately there isn't. The bigger the TV, the bigger the room must be. If not, the TV will overpower the room and that will be all one will notice.

If you want a 'homey feel', you will have to sacrifice and go to a smaller TV. This can also be a good reason to add on to the house. Good luck.

Hey There!

I was just browsing around on Yahoo Answers and came across this question of yours.

I know exactly what you mean about the big screen TV... my hubby did the same thing.

What I found to work the most is to put stylish vases around the TV with exotic flowers such as orchids and such.

You could also eliminate any large entertainment "CENTERS" and replace them with a very sleek line TV stand from IKEA

Since you're doing some decorating, I wanted to mention that I’m an IKEA Regional Manager and was informed of a private website at my last regional managers meeting that ended up to be a promotion we’re doing.

This website is giving away several hundred $1,000 IKEA Giftcards for just putting in your zipcode. It’s a marketing campaign they are doing to see what areas of the country people are interested in IKEA!

You can’t go wrong… Just put in your zipcode and get a $1,000 IKEA Giftcard.

You could do some SERIOUS DECORATING for the free $1,000 from this giveaway they are doing!

Heck, you could even get the FREE Giftcard and sell it on ebay and go buy stuff somewhere else with the money you just made!

It's going to be hard to hide the 200 pound gorilla in the room. Have you tried re-arranging the furniture? Maybe angling the tv in the furthest corner. You don't give the size of your room but if it is big enough maybe separate the room with a love seat facing the tv and the rest of the furniture arranged in the old comfy way. If you have more people you can bring chairs closer to the tv. I am kind of like your husband in that I like the big screen but maybe a 50 inch would fit the room better. Can you return for exchange?

I have a 50 inch flat screen that was a must have for my hubby, too. We made a compromise---He gets the TV--I get a wall unit. You can get a wall unit that has sliding doors that will cover the TV totally when it isn't being used...When not in use with the door closed, my beautiful wall unit is what gets all of the attention--and it's so nice that even when the doors are open it doesn't over-power the room.

The best thing for me was that I found my unit at a scratch and dent sale for $700...It had been around $2000.

I have a 65" Hitachi (That I LOVE!!) I had the same problem though, then I decided to get an entertainment center that would fit around it. It's beautiful, oak, with beveled glass display doors on both sides, then pull out, arched doors next to them, and a bridge & shelf over the top of it. I think it makes the room feel very comfy, with a lot of my "treasures" & pictures, etc. displayed in the lit cabinets. I got it for like $1,200. from a place called "K.C.Furniture" I found it on eBay first, but then delt with them personally. They shipped it from CA to MO, straight to my door, and were excellent to work with! If you have enough space in your room, I would try looking around for one, they make a BIG difference in the look:) The whole thing takes up about 12 foot against the wall.
Good Luck!!
