I would like to know the difference between the field of work of a psychiatrist and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC).
Can a LCDC write prescriptions for psychiatric needs?

psychiatrist needs a doctorate degree and is able to deal with a variety of things. college at least ten years with internship
licensed chemical dependency counselor needs a certificate and it usually takes about a year to obtain it. you can only work with substance abusers.

A counselor usually has a BS, often a Master's degree, and sometimes a PHd.
