If your dentist is decent, not during. Afterward you will have pain, but the dentist should have given you a prescription to deal with that. Swishing with salt water to keep the area clean also helps. A cold pack on the outside of the jaw will help with swelling and bleeding. A package of frozen peas works great as it conforms to your face, just wrap a layer of towel around it first.

It is different for everyone because everyone is different and dentists are different. I had all four of mine done about 7 years ago, and I was out during the surgery. I did not have to use the painkillers after the first day. I even had a problem like a week later, but never felt any pain. They will give you instructions for taking care of them and a prescription for a good painkiller just in case.

Depends on the amount of pain you can stand. I was in pain for 3-4 days after having mine cut out. The pain killers helped on those days though.

Yes. Anytime there is surgery involved. Usually getting your wisdom teeth removed they put you to sleep so the actual removal doesn't hurt one bit. But after your gums start to heal. you have lots of swelling going on, lots of tenderness, and also it is going to throb like the dickens. When I had mine done I had to eat carnation instant breakfast's all the time. I couldn't chew. But depending on the persons immune responce it will vary on how much swelling and pain is involved with the healing process.

You're not going to feel it while it's actually happening - you'll actually likely be out. I didn't have too much pain after having mine out...but it probably varies by person. I heard some horror stories before having it done and got all worked up about it for nothing.

I had 3 cut out when I was 18. I was scared to death! Just before they put me out the nurse said, "you will wake up laughing." I DID wake up laughing. They give you pain med afterwards so you should be fine. Use an ice bag to keep the swelling down. Good luck.

post op SUCKS!!! i just had mine out about on the 20th of feb. that first week kicked my ***. plus the post op holes that food gets stuck in is beyond irritating. they close up anywhere from several months to a year later. but a lot of pain has gone away permanently so i'm glad it's over. the hydrocodone made me sick so i went over 24 hours with out pain meds cause the nurse didn't want to write a new prescription so it took me that long to get her to write me one for percocet. once i got that it was a lot better but i was really weak i guess from not being able to eat a lot of solid foods at first. the stitches came out about 5 days later and for some odd reason i had bruises on the side of my jaw line for about a day or two after the stitches came out. i'm not sure why that happened. good luck!

i had two at a time (same side) in a one week period, it was fine. this was in 1982-83, i'm sure it's done much better now. i also was able to use this as a way to quit smoking cigarettes.
you'll do okay!

I had all mine removed and went under general. With enough painkillers it is nothing to worry about.
