I have been under a great deal of stress lately(last 6 years) and can not get to sleep at night. I sleep for about 3 hours and need more. But my real problem is that it may take between 3 and 4 hours to fall asleep. I have tried lunesta, sonata, high doses of melatonin, whiskey, vodka, sambuca, warm milk, even some opiates, nothing helps. My friend gave me some ether which makes me a bit woozy but I can't go out the next day smelling of that. What else is out there, I NEED SLEEP!!!! nothing these doctors give me works!!!!

You likely have more than stress going on. Of course, the stress makes it much worse, but you may have an underlying medical problem. Please see a neurologist who specializes in sleep. It could range from stress, to depression, to a tumor, to breathing problems.

The liquor did not work because it actually decreases restorative sleep (proven scientifically, there is no debate on this). You'll have worse sleep if you drink. Muscle relaxers and opiates disturb the sleep cycle too, so they are bad ideas for longer term help (more than 2-4 days).

Trazodone helps many sleep. It is technically an antidepressant, but is given for sleep more than depression. Thorazine may help. A mixture of medicines may be your doctor's next step, say an SSRI with trazodone. Seroquel is an antipsychotic that often works when others meds don't.

However, I'd see the neurologist/sleep specialist (doctor) first. From a medical standpoint, you need a new workup and approach. Best of luck.

Sounds like your doctor should be referring you to a specialist. Dificulty sleeping has many causes including depression. I'm not saying that that's what you have but it's a possibility. I know that there are sleep clinics around the country... in my area it's connected with Stanford University. Personally, I have been using the drug Trazadone (300 mg. at bedtime) for years with success and I had problems both going to sleep and staying asleep. Hope that you finally get some sleep.

Ambien looks to have some promising advantages to it, in spite of the actuality that maximum sleep meds are actually not designed to handle long term insomnia and may even make it worse. those days, I genuinely have been taking lorazepam, this is technically no longer a nap help- yet and anti-stress agent. It has a chilled result to the factor the place it has enabled me to circulate to sleep definitely and stay that way. My wellbeing care provider thinks its ok that i exploit it for this objective

the cause of your insomnia may not be something that can be simply relieved by taking sleep aid medicines. you may need some help with regards to matters contributing to your stress, a friend who is good in listening and advising or sometimes there's nothing wrong with consulting a psychiatrist.

Try 5HTP its another natural sleepaide. The other drugs that you have taken will only hurt you in the long run. Try some type of relaxation methods such as yoga or meditation. But before all of this Pray.

The only thing that works for me is muscle relaxers.
