i will be in nyc in may and have a question. it says that the subway system runs 24 hrs, but grand central station closes at 1:30 am. how do i use this station then?

The subway runs all night long. Even if you are denied access to the waiting rooms in Grand Central Station, you can still get the subway there. There are staircases that lead directly to the subway, bypassing the areas that serve the railroads. (From the street, look for a large green light over the staircase that leads to the subway).

The Subway runs 24/7, Its only the Main Waiting Room, bars and restaurants that close at 1:30.
They do this to keep the homeless people from camping out there, and to clean and do maintenance.

The subway doesn't run 24 hours, from what I remember from being in NYC. I don't remember the exact times it stops running, but I'm willing to bet 2:00-6:00 a.m.
