There are numerous anti depressants on the market and as a lot of people have said, they each affect people differently. For example, Paxil is effective for hot flashes as well as depression for many people. If that is an issue, it might be a good choice. Prozac has been known to cause weight loss in some people, so it would be helpful in cases where that would be a "desirable" side effect, but not for a person who is underweight or has an eating disorder. A doctor is the best person to answer this question for you and only after a physical exam and a complete history is taken in order to determine the best choice for you. Good Luck.

There are many good drugs to treat depression, but not every drug will work for every person. It depends on your own body's chemistry. A medication that works for someone else may not work for you, or may cause you to experience more severe side effects. If you are taking a medication that isn't helping you or is causing undesirable side effects discuss this with your physician. Also, many people don't realize how effective exercise is for treating depression. In addition to improving your mood it will improve your overall health.

They all work differently and it really depends on an individual's brain chemistry. I have had 5 different ones, 3 of them worked (seroxat, lustral, lofepramine) and 2 of them had side effects that were so bad I couldn't take them (citalopram, prozac).
My ex-boyfriend has tried about 7 and he still hasn't found one.
One of my friends took lustral and it worked fine first time. For some people lithium is the only thing that works. There is NO 'best' drug.

Depends on what your problem is. Sleep-all day depression without an anxiety component probably Wellbutrin or something like it. Depression with anxiety and/or social anxiety then a Paxil or a Zoloft, or maybe Cymbalta.

I take Cymbalta. Each anti-depressant will work different for each person, so it's best to go see a doctor and discuss the different medications, then go through trial periods to find one that works best for you.

I would avoid those. The best anti-depressant is having someone to talk to, not psychotropic drugs. Even if having no one is the cause fo your depression, I still would not recommend them. In the end, YOU have to find a way oout of the depressed state either which way.
I experienced depression for several years living in group homes and without friends. In time, I developed a better strength to deal with the emotion and that is what helped me.

I have taken Elavil and Celexa, and the Celexa is the best one of the two. I'm not sure about the rest, but I've experience very, very minimal side effects from the Celexa. My mother also takes it, and loves it.

Each medicine may work differently for each person. As for me, after trying almost ten different medications, I have found that Buspar works best for me and has very few side effects.

Out of Prozak, Celexa, and Zoloft, I like Celexa best, but what works well for one person, may not work well for the next.
