Well, princesscrystal, everyone is different and what is good for one person is not necessarily for another. What is good one day may not be so the next. To do/say the perfect thing requires knowledge of who that person is and where they're at today.
I would recommend a book for you, called "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman. You might just want to browse through it at the bookstore. He's Christian and wrote his book so, but the real value in this book has nothing to do with the religious aspect. He explains that people tend to be affected by one or more of the following things: Acts of Service, Physical Touch, Gifts, Quality Time, and Words of Affirmation. You can often tell what is important to the person you love by the way they act. Are they always doing things for other people? Then they feel loved when people do things for them. Are they always wanting to sit close, hold hands, etc.? Then they feel Physical Touch is important. When you respond in the ways that are most important to them, they will then feel most loved.
I was (reluctantly) in a relationship class a couple years ago and all of the couples felt that this new perspective made a difference to their relationship.
What's interesting is that what another person feels translates as love may not be what you think does. But, by acknowledging that their way of feeling love is valid and responding to it will demonstrate your willingness to meet them where they're at.

there is no single perfect way. there are many things you can do every day to show you care. hugging them, surprising them with food they love, getting something they've been wanting for a while.
:) just remember it's not necessarily big extravagant things.. little things can really show them that you love them and care.

Gifts are nice, but the real way to show someone that you love them is to treat them with kindness and generosity. There is no greater gift than for someone to be generous with their time and with their love...

You have to figure out their love language. Some people show love by touch, others by gifts, and others by grand gestures. The best way would be to observe how they show love and return it their way.
