I have four Maltese terriers but I also have a bug problem. They are tiny like flying black dots. Whenever I kill one it seems two more appear in it's place. What can I use that won't make my dogs sick?

Don't buy anything at the regular stores.
Get Fronline or Advantix from your Vet or Pet specialty Supplier (ie:PetSmart)
apply once a month between the dogs' shoulder blades.
This will protect them from most anything (bug wize)
Perhaps, you have moist house plants ( or standing water in the dishes ) underneath them? This may be the source of little black flying gnats.
Empty trays after 10 min. & let your houseplants dry out between waterings.
This will prevent soil gnats.

I'm unable to determine what the bug might be by your description alone because you neglected to tell us if the bug was on the dog or just something you noticed flying in the house. Nevertheless, I did some research and the first web site listed below tells you how to determine if it is fleas. The second one deals with ticks.

I'm kind of concerned because fleas and tick do not have wings therefore do not fly. If bugs are not on the dogs, then there is a possibility that you have gnats in your house. This is especially true if you have any potted plants indoors, so that is what the third web site deals with. Hope all this information is of help for you.

Why don't you put the dog in a kennel for three days and I am sure he will be safe when he comes home and you can use anything you want from hardware store or grocery store Look in the white hair of the dog and you will find the fleas if that is the problem

Believe it or not, wash your dogs then use a little dawn dish soap on them, it kills fleas on contact, be sure to rinse them well, if it's left on it'll dry out their skin and coat. Also remove the dogs from the house after washing them and get some bombs and put them off in the house. If it were me, I'd do the bomb thing twice, just for good measures about two or three days apart.

I tried using those Raid bait things. Just make sure you put them where your dogs can't get to them. I didn't get them because I had roaches, but I had silverfish and spiders and I noticed a drastic drop in all bugs when I had the Raid bait out. I think they even make some that are for small insects instead of just cockroaches. Good luck!

use frontline, and remember most of the fleas live in the carpet and bedding. to check they are fleas squash them on a damp paper towel, if they are fleas there will be red stains caused by the blood they have been drinking from your dogs.
