They are sold by the pound, not by the bunch. Take as many or as few as you wish. It's perfectly legal.

I do it all the time. I get half a bag of green ones and half a bag of yellow ones. Otherwise I either have none for a while or they start to go mushy at the same time.
The only reason the store puts them in a plastic bag is so that you won't notice some of them are damaged and will turn brown soon. If they were out of the bag you would notice and not take them. It also helps some cashiers who would not recognize a banana to ring it up unless it was in a distinctive yellow bag.
Go ahead and take what you need. Tell your husband that is how you avoid having to throw away half of the bananas he is paying for,

they grow that way. they are put on the shelf that way. but they are sold by the pound not the bunch. im sure if you break them apart no one is going to call the fruit police. besides, not every bunch has the same number.I have a large family to feed so i pick out the largest bunch.but if i was single or only had 1or 2 people i would,nt buy 9 or 10 bananas! they do,nt last that long . I wouldnt feel bad at all about taking only what i needed. i bet someone else will see what you left behind as the perfect size for their needs.

No, it's not wrong, you may only want one or two and they are sold by the pound like other fruit. There is nothing wrong with it. It IS wrong to eat fruit without paying for it. It's wrong to eat anything before you have paid for it. But break a bunch of bananas up to get the one or two that you wish to buy, not a problem.

It's fine, at least when they're sold by weight but almost all stores do this it seems. I live alone and I can't eat a whole bunch before they spoil!
But please be careful when breaking them apart, I do often notice customers have broken them apart so one of the banana's that's left has the entire stem torn off at the top and is starting to spoil. With banana's, especially when they're pretty soft and ripe, you must really grap them at the stems themselves when tearing them apart or you'll bruise them.

It's perfectly all right. If the store people didn't want you to do it, they would put a sign up, or would put a ribbon around the package of bananas. The bananas are weighed at the counter, usually, and you pay for what you get.

I live alone and love to have bananas around for my cereal, but if I buy more than three at a time they get to ripe for my taste. There is nothing wrong with taking only what you want.

It's perfectly OK. OK to pull bad ones off the bunch as well. PS, that's why there are loose ones around, someone may have pulled bruised ones off the bunch.
Don't worry, the store gathers the over-ripe and bruised and sells at discount to those of us who like banana bread.

Most of the time, where I shop....theres a bin that has single bananas or two or three together after someone has seperated a bunch and those are usually the best ones.
I don't know if its wrong...I've just never done it.

If there are no loose bananas and you only want 2 or 3, I don't see the problem. If there are loose ones around you should take those instead, though.

Not at all. You are paying for it by the weight. Reverse the idea. Would the store throw in the whole bunch and charge you just for half? Never. So why shouldnt you select just half and pay for half?
