Maybe time to get another vet, if that is the kind of advice they give,
Maybe your vet is looking to make extra money, from doing bloodwork for genetic testing, x-rays to check hips and knee on the breeding parents to ensure they are genetically free from disease, and then when it is puppy time getting to do the c-sections because many small breeds cannot delivery naturally, then of course next comes the vet health checks, deworming and vaccines, and possibly euthanasia or inpatient care of pups that may not make it, So you get to maybe break even but most likely end up in the financial whole with your hobby, your female dogs get to suffer discomfort and pain from giving birth and from recovery from surgery and the vet gets to line his pockets from your new hobby, I guess I figured out myself why he suggested it to you

If you start a kennel...Its a lot of hard work, You think hard about this. I think a loveble dog is Shih-Tzu, You will be a grooming daily. Ive owned a dogkennel all my life you cant take 1 day off. Its 24/7.Make sure you check with you co. planning and zoning in you state they have passed alot of new laws everywhere. USDA has really cracked down on dog breeders, (Its a good thing) They have gotton rid of the bad.

Maltese!!!
They are expensive, but I got mine for a little cheaper because he had some "unmaltese-like" traits." According to the breeder, he seems to have a little bit of poodle blood in him. He is the cutest thing ever, and very sweet. He gets excited, but calms down quickly.
Don't get a chiwuawa. They are really yappy.

Maltese- ...but they are expensive little jewels!!
most lovable, best temperament, playful -high maintenance.
Chihuahuas- can be un predictable temperment wise.
I've owned (2) angels - and (2) terrors!
...most are ankle biters that are protective of their owners!
*most Vets don't recommend breeding dogs, but rather Spay & Neutering.

I have five Chihuahuas, and as far as I'm concerned, they are the most lovable, loyal dogs.
