Basically i have a 1 year old male cat, who is white in colour, with 1 small brown patch at the top of his spine, near his head.

Around 3/4 days ago i noticed a cut right across the brown patch, which i just though was caused by fighting with another cat, i left it to heal naturally.

But tonight while he was lying asleep, i seen that the brown patch was missing, in its place was a bloody space, upon closer inspection, it looks like he has bit the whole brown patch off, including the skin, hence the blood.

Since i seen the cut a few days before, he has been licking/biting the patch but didnt notice the damage till tonight.

Any idea why he would do this ??

It sounds like a bite wound from a fight. The skin was probably torn but still attached and your cat just pulled it off while trying to clean it. Your cat should see a vet to get antibiotics or it can get infected. I once found my cat with a similar wound but it was already infected. My cat had long fur so I did not see it until I found my cat appearing lifeless. Please take your cat to a vet. These things seem to get bad fast once the infection starts.

Cats and dogs both get what is commonly referred to as "hot spots." This is any kind of irritaiton, usually stemming from an insect bite, that they can not leave alone. They will lick it constantly, usually due to pain. They will lick it untill it is raw and bloody and spreads and usually becomes infected. They don't know any better, they just know it hurts. When this happens, your vet will usually shave the area and apply an antibiotic cream. Hot spot creams are available in the pet section of most stores. It is important to make sure the animal then does not bother the area. You may have to bandage it to keep it from licking at it and in severe cases they may have to wear a cone ( a cone shape neck collar that prevents them from being able to reach the infected area.)
One important thing to remember is this, never apply any kind of medicine to a deep wound or puncture, one that won't stop bleeding. If the wound you describe is like this, take you cat to the vet. Better safe than sorry. Hope this helps...

It can be an injury that is getting infected and not healing, like an abscess.

It can be a spider bite that is in the process of scabbing and becoming necrotic (dead tissue) and will require treatment with antibiotics.

Endocrine disorders such as hyperadrenocorticism in cats makes the skin really fragile and it breaks extremelly easily, as well as hair thinning and loss.

A fungal infection in the skin or parasites (ie. cuterebra) will make a nasty wet hole in the skin and look like a very ugly wound that may also need treatment with antibiotics and/or antifungal medication.

In other words, no way of telling without seeing the cat. You should take him to the vet and have him take a look at him. Likely he may need antibiotics, cleaning the wound, +/- stitches (unlikely since it may be infected and stitching it will only lock the infection in)

ok first whoever it replaced into that stated Geckos for a 14 twelve months previous is a moron, geckos in particular are no longer good pets, they have a bad disposition and that they chew, they do notice tame properly, and are not good pets for dealing with. in the experience that your son needs a large lizerd for a puppy, i might commonly recommend a bearded dragon, or a chameleon, in spite of the indisputable fact that, being that the boy has by no skill had a lizard as a puppy, a greater low priced and less complicated to maintain lizard may well be an anole, those are small they require little or no care, and a 10 gallon tank could desire to surely abode greater effective than a pair. in the experience that your boy is responsable adequate, then i might definately say bypass with the bearded dragon, for a bearded, you will choose a minimum of a 30 gal tank, with lighting fixtures fixtures and warmth rocks, yet remember, beardies require interest, and an extremely ballanced weight loss plan, beardies are omnivores, meaning they'll consume approximately something, yet additionally they seem to have aquired tastes. some dragons desire countless issues.

Maybe the brown patch was a scab or infected/injured area that was hurting him. Apparently he isn't healed so it would be best to have the vet take a look.

Please take your cat to the vet to have that ulcerating wound treated properly. The cat at this stage will be needing some antibiotics and probebly needs to be fitted with an "Elizabethan Collar." Won't cost you much, so please do take your cat to the vet. And keep him indoors at night at least becuase that is the time cats get into fights with other cats or racoons.
