Well they don't really hurt, some cause a bit of pain after having them for a bit, but only because the teeth are moving.
I was so nervous to get them too, but I got them off 3 days ago from having them for 2 years, and let me tell you is it WAY worth having a bit of pain.
Over all it isn't really that painful, it depends on how crooked your teeth are too.
Don't worry you'll be fine, plus if your teeth are really sore you can take some Advil or something.
The invisible braces cost more and they can break WAAAY more easily, that's why I got the metal, and I didn't really mind the metal as they didn't look too bad.
Good luck ^_^ And you'll enjoy the nice beautiful smile you have once the braces come off.

Well the brackets will feel weird when you first get your braces put on because your gums won't be used to having something rubbing against it. They might be scraping your gums a little, so be sure to use wax to put on them. (ask your orthodontist for some) Well... braces can be pretty painful when you first get them on, but they aren't bad after that. The only other time it hurts is when you get a new wire and maybe your first tightening or two. Hope this helps!

getting them on doesn't hurt at all...its the pain you experience afterwards since your teeth are being pulled and straightened that takes some getting used to. after they are put on, take some aspirin to reduce the pain before it gets too bad. Do that every time they get tightened and that will reduce the pain. with eating, at first, don't eat anything hard to bite into like sandwiches and hard fruit. stick to soft things for a bit and then take it slow. they also advise you not to chew gum but i do, you just have to make sure it doesn't stick to the brackets. i have an invisilign retainer for my bottom teeth and its ok but you talk funny with it in your mouth and true clear ones seem to get yellowish tints sometimes. follow the advise of your ortho to get them off as soon as possible and brush your teeth well so food doesn't get caught. remember, tylenol is your best friend.

I had braces. Getting them doesn't hurt, but having all that new stuff in your mouth feels weird. Getting them adjusted CAN ache a little, but you get used to it. The only real pain is when a pointy end pokes your mouth fom the inside. But they give you wax to cover pointy ends, so that shouldn't be a problem.
As far as what you can eat...once I got used to them, I was able to eat just about anything. Apples, gum, you name it. The trick is to chew gently, a little at a time.
Good luck!

Eat only soft foods for the first week (mashed potatos will be your best friend). Rinse your mouth out with warm salt water...and use Tylenol before and after you get them tightened when they are on.
Yep, it will bother you for a couple of weeks, but it is get better as time wears on.
I like invisaline and use them as a retainer now.
Good luck,

Chewing gum and certain sticky or hard foods, such as raw carrots, large hard pretzels, and toffee should be avoided because they can damage braces. Frequent damage to braces can prolong treatment. Eating soft foods can help avoid additional pressure on teeth.

You will be fine. Your teeth will be a bit tender so you will want to eat soft foods for your comfort level.
Get plenty of wax because your cheeks & tongue will have to adjust to the braces.
Take some Advil if the pain really bothers you.
Good luck

your teeth will hurt for a couple of days. Food is much harder to eat. Softer food is better. Teeth are more sensitive.
