They live in poverty, their culture tells them to have many kids, so they need to find work to feed them. The government says come on up, and they slip in, work under the table, buy an ID for $100 bucks at the local park, and get a job. The money they make here is more than the $1-$2 dollars a day it takes to feed their families back home, and enough to pay the coyotes to bring over their family members. While living here every business goes out of the way to accomodate them, so that they don't have to assimilate. If the borders are not sealed, all of Mexico's poor will be in the United States.

One trip to lower Mexico and you will see, i lived their for 3 years, many of the small town bus terminals had big bill boards outside from head hunters looking for both skilled and unskilled workers to go to the USA, as i was told the way it works is the big company's in the USA pay coyotes a lump sum to bring in so many workers for each paying company, the coyotes are the people smugglers that travel Mexico gathering groups to go to the USA, the information i received was that the poor workers are used until too many mad American workers call INS to deport them, the company receives a tip of the coming INS visit by phone, giving them time to dump the employees telling them their is no more work, the company waits a while and rehires after a fue months, via a local labor contractor, the contractor pays the employees from a contract labor check direct from the company which is legal, for the company, this is one of those so called you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours seens, the politicians cover the company's and work with the INS so every thing is timed just right, the company's you see getting busted are the ones who wish to hire illegals on their own without paying tips to the political protection, kinda reminds me of the good old days of the Mafia and payoffs to get things done, have any of you ever wondered what happened to the Mafia, remember if you can't beat um join them, well all you anti mexican people would be much safer trusting a mexican than trusting your political system, tell me how many bad polititions have they caught so far this year, or last year, hait to bust your perfect american bubble but this is all true.

How does the U.S. retain the undocumented? They have no control over them. We have a dysfunctional Federal Government..

They just come! They don't give a crap about out laws. I don't think we are doing anything to "attract" or "retain" anybody except for the fact that we have a better economy than they do.

They are not "undocumented workers." They are ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS. Why can't you call them what they are? You make it sound like their only violation is as bad as a parking ticket or they lost a piece of paper. They are breaking MANY laws by being here. Face reality - they are not just "undocumented!"

You have to take a look at who really runs the show in this country: Corporate America.
Sub-par wages equals bigger profits for them. When you see the government start levying huge fines against companies that hire UW's, you will start seeing a steady decrease in them.
Don't hold your breath, though. Our government will take on Big Business when hell freezes over.

They come for jobs, its all about money. They are retaining them as big business wants them, and those in Washington, they love big business, and votes. And no they are not undocumented, they are illegal aliens, outright and open law breakers.

It's because of our uncanny ability of leaving our borders pretty much open and turning a blind eye to the immigration laws.
