Catholics celebrate the Eucharist because when the priest consecrates the bread and wine it becomes the true and real body and blood of Jesus Christ.

The Eucharist was instituted by Christ Himself, Who commanded us to partake of His body and blood in remembrance of Him until He comes again. We also participate in the Eucharist as a sign of our unity with our brothers and sisters in Christ, both those on earth and in Heaven.

Here is what the Catechism has to say:

ARTICLE 3 THE SACRAMENT OF THE EUCHARIST

1322 The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord's own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.

1323 "At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet 'in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.'"135

Because Jesus told us to! Read the gospel accounts of the Last Supper.

For the disciples, the phrase 'do this in remebrance of me' was a command. As Jews, they knew that meant to re-create the action as Christ presented it....and they knew what the meaning of the word IS is...as in 'this IS my body."

The Eucharist is the most beautiful encounter possible with Jesus Christ. I feel sorry for those who have not experienced it, and more sorry for those who refuse to be open to it!

At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “Take this bread. It is my body.” Then he said, “Take this and drink. This is my blood. Do this in memory of me.”

Catholics believe this was the First Eucharist, that through a miracle the bread and wine actually became the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Catholics reenact the Last Supper during every Mass, where God, acting through the priest, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

This is a great sacrament of thanksgiving and unity of Catholics.

With love in Christ.

Because the founder of the Catholic Church, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, immediately after celebrating the first Eucharist, commanded those present, the first priests of His Church, "DO THIS in remembrance of Me". Our Lord and Savior commands, His Church obeys. Why doesn't your church obey this direct command from the lips of God Himself?

Another term for communion. But they think a ringing of bells magically changes the bread and wine. Just another example of how far from the Bible they came.
