This get on my nerves I smile when I want to not when someone else thinks I should. Look sometimes I'm happy sometimes I'm angry, sad bored or feeling some other emotion. Why should someone smile just because someone else thinks they should. No one is going to be happy 100% of the time regardless of who they are. I just get fed up with people who think I should be happy just because they are. What do you think?

A little note to the Bainbridge Schollar
below

No one owes anyone a smile. Its condescending and arogant to think someone should have the same emotions as you have. If someone isnt feeling happy theres nothing wrong with not smiling show some respect for the feelings of others by not making demands of them.

Yes... it deeply bothers me. I don't want to front with anyone or put on a face that I know is not true. My friends are always telling to smile and be happy... but most of the time I feel blue and I wouldn't want to be a liar. It also annoys me when people tell you to wave/say "hi" to them.... it annoys the sh*t out of me.... If I don't want to, I shouldn't have to.

BTWay 'stagemaniac' I have a natural "frown/pout" too... and people always ask me "why are you so said?" and sometimes I'm happy, but in order for me to smile I must be really, really, really HAPPY...

I think people should always look exactly how they're feeling because there's no sense in faking because if you fake in this, you're faking everything especially faking life. My husband always tries to make me smile especially when I don't want to and it drives me because when I do he's always trying to correct the way I'm doing it - it's very annoying! I totally agree with you and I'm soo happy somebody said what I was thinking . . . I can't stand being fake.

People used to do this to me all the time. I hated then and I hate it now! Just give them a quick, fake smile and turn away. You've given them what they demanded and got your point across that they shouldn't tell you how to feel.

I save my smiles for those worthy moments. If I am forced to then it comes off as being fake.

It does bother me when people make me smile. If I'm not happy, then I'm not happy. I do have to go through with it because I want to please them. If I don't smile back then I'm automatically a b----. I just don't get it.

I've had a rough week and there's really no need for me to smile. Someone told me to smile. So I smirked, then gradually smiled. It felt awful lying to myself like that.

And why does that person think they have control over me? Who made them King of Happiness? Instead of saying, "You should try to smile more often," they say "smile" like a command. Still, both statements are impolite.

I used to think like you. In mid-life I decided it wouldn't hurt to learn how to flash a friendly smile when someone mentioned that I wasn't looking happy.
The fact that someone cared enough to ask was enough reason to flash the smile, and make us both happier. I smile a lot more now, naturally.
If you think it's trendy and sophisticated to be gloomy and moody, being the martyr and always put upon, it isn't. Life can be better if you cooperate just a little bit.

YOu are right. People should learn to leave us alone. Demanding people to smile is being domineering and controlling.

I sincerely apologized to you ,when I said smile,on the end of my answered jokes, the smile word is not intended for you, it is for the questioner's funny questions. To be honest ,I did not even know that you existed.

I have a natural pout and people always say to me "smile". I say to one coworker now "I will when you walk away!". The moron thinks I'm being funny - NOT!
I just wish people would mind their own business.

Sometimes people who never stop smiling, laughing, or talking five octaves above their natural voice bug me out of my mind. I cannot stand people like that. When people tell me to smile, yes, it frusturates me. I cannot tell you exactly why, because I do not know exactly why lol, but it bothers me a lot!!!
