Is god an all powerful "thing" personified as a human, is it the force that makes things work, or is it an image we try to create for our own sense of security? If god is real, why has he/she/it allowed all the mishaps, why would god be anthropomorphic? How can god even exist?

Religious people describe gods, however, in contradictory and incoherent ways. Numerous characteristics are attributed to their gods, some of which are impossible and some combinations of which are impossible.

I too am not sure who or what god is. I feel there is a being or humans need a being to worship or pray to for a sense of spirituality. It is good to believe in someone or something, whether it be god as we know it, or worshiping nature, the moon , the sun , whatever, as long as it is a peacefull worship and does not have an extremist belief. I do , however, believe there was a man called Jesus.

You've probably answered your questions simply by asking them. What kind of god who (supposedly) created the entire universe made up of uncountable galaxies of uncountable stars, dust and all out weird **** out there would care if you made up an image of him, and got it all wrong: Elohim, Allah, Ba'el or Kazu? The bible as a source of ancient wisdom and morality stories is nice, but it's not a gauge of reality.

god is any one of those things, but God the God of Christians is a guy basically, but he is more, he is beyond time, space, matter. This earth is his creation, it is not a part of him or his world. He created us, and has only our best intrest in mind, but we have messed up sometimes, and other times the Devil messes with us.
