I know they both have a major disadvantage- high colesterol; but, are their any advantages to eating them?

As with other seafood, shrimp is high in calcium and protein but low in food energy. A shrimp-based meal is also a significant source of cholesterol, from 7 mg to 251 mg per 100 g of shrimp, depending on the method of preparation.

Crab is a good source of selenium, magnesium, vitamin b6, and folate. They're also low in calories.

Both shrimp and crab are very low cal (olny about 80 calories for 3 oz) and are a great source of protein and eating shrimp has shown in studies to significantly lower triglyceride levels

As for the colesterol thing - I think you have been missinformed please read this link:
