Walk-on, if you are good enough and impress the coaches, they may give you a scholarship, but unless that happens, you'll have to pay for your college.

No Way. Coaches don't know you. Most Divsion 1 golf programs have their rosters set, and many don't even encourage walkons or even have open tryouts. Even if you did get a tryout, and got hot and "qualified," The coach would have the option of rejecting you based on the premise that he/she doesn't know you well enough to offer you a spot on the team.

If you are already enrolled at a college and you want to play college golf, look at smaller colleges in your area. Then contact 15-20 golf coaches at those colleges, and send them your information. While you are at it, play in as many amateur events as possible, so you can establish a track record now.
If you were that good in the first place, why weren't you recruited out of HS? You need to market yourself NOW if you want to play college golf.

You can't join the team until you qualify but you can qualify as a walk-on. Give it a try. What's that worst that can happen?
