The belief that theists are uneducated, inbred, and generally stupid people seems to abound here.
Is that the only way an atheist can justify wide-spread belief in the world?
Honestly - if that's the case, that's pretty sad. Yes, there are some theists out there that are not the brightest stars in the heavens by a long shot - but so are some atheists. I have met some atheists that are dumber then a rock. Should I then say that all atheists are uneducated and stupid?
It seems more of a statement based in desperation. That the only way to explain it is to insult another's intelligence.
There are some brillant people out there who are theists. Note, I didn't say Christian - just that they have some faith in the Divine. And I have met others that have discovered so much through science that they became theists.
Please - I don't insult the intelligence of atheists. Is this the only way atheists know how to interact?

Nondescript - I am not making generalizations. I am basing this on the answers I have seen by atheists in the past hour - also over the past several days. When all else fails the "insult the intelligence" card gets pulled.
And yes, there are theists that are guilty of this too. It happens on both sides.
I am not offended. I am way past being upset by other people. I am just tired of seeing it as an answer. It casts all of us non-Christians in a bad light. And it doesn't help the atheists who don't act that way.

I agree but this applies to atheists and theists alike. Today I have seen many ignorant bashes, name calling and the picking apart of others faith with no respect for context, times and reasons. I wonder if these same people are also like this in life.

Religious people aren't stupid, just superstitious. Religion gets converts two ways:
1) Through indoctrination of children
2) Through emotional manipulation of human insecurities
It has nothing to do with reason.
But religion gains converts, even among the intelligent, because those two tactics are extremely effective. Children that are indoctrinated from a young age to revere religion and never question it, have a hard time breaking away from it. Even if they become lukewarm in the religion, they still carry that baggage. Also, religion reinforces by playing on people's emotions. They are made to feel shamed for falling short of an impossible yardstick, they are threatened by Hell and tempted by Heaven. They are told not to question authority and be intolerant towards those outside the group, unless they have a chance to be converted.
And Christians are really intent on pushing that conversion, even to the point of leveraging government to do it for them. And you say athiests don't know how to interact? You should see some of the inappropriate places people injterject their religion.

I don't think anyone is trying to insult your intelligence. But when you get some of these bonafide super-crazy religious wackos on here lumping all atheists together and saying mean things, you can only expect some people to take offence and retaliate.

For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

firstly the folkes that deny the existance of a supreme being are bolstering the beliefs of those who do ,,for why else would they have to strain and struggle and argue against a non-entity its absurd,, so their own mockery and attacks does the testimony for the existance of God,, for who would fight the concept,, if they truly didnt believe something was there,, like a boxer alone in a ring, they would be without a purpose, and a little simple minded, to do all the protesting and angry diatribes for---- no thing---,,

I never insult other people's intelligence. I only insult their imaginations. From what I see, you have no imaginations, ha ha, you're not deluded!
