Well he probably likes you but then he was unsure of how u feel abt him so he asked the question in a different way than the usual way so thats why u got messed up but i guess u should ask him out anyways

When he asked you 'you like me as a friend and not a boyfriend?' that sounds like to me that he really wanted you to say no instead of yes. i think he likes you but don't feel like you would like him for a boyfriend. so just tell him that you changed your mind about that question he asked you! then, since you have known him for so long, if it don't work out, you are still friends.

If your shy maybe you should tell one of your friends to bring it up when your not around...and like that he'll know.....and if he asked you that than most likely he likes you too......Its better if you let him know and dont let time pass you by cause then later on your gonna be like why didnt i let him know......you never know what could come out of it.....Good Luck!!!

If you trully love him then you should tell him. I know it isn't that simple but otherwise you will finally work up the courage to tell him and it will be too late.
