Im 17 and im a guy. Last summer I just started lifting. Before I started lifting I was growing a few inches a year. Im 5'8 now and I haven't really grown that much at all lately. Just wondering if lifting actually does stunt your growth?

I don’t think so. A few days ago I answered a question related to weight lifting . While reading about the topic, I found out that even children can do it.

"Bergholtz says the misconception that lifting weights can stunt a child's growth kept youth away from weight training for decades. But, just as researchers disproved that women who lift weights will necessarily bulk up, they're finding that misconceptions about strength training in youth are starting to fade."

“As long as your child is using the proper techniques and lifting an appropriate amount of weight, strength training shouldn't have any effect on your child's growth plates, the layer of cartilage near the end of the bone where most of the bone growth occurs.”

"Weight lifting should not begin until the child is at least 8 years old. Before that age, children lack the balance and coordination necessary for safe weight lifting."

Well when you are 15-16 you grow like crazy and by 17 you start levelling off. There really is not scientific evidence that weight lifting makes you shorter. I grew like 6 inches between 14-16. You will probably grow another inch or 2. It depends. but once your growth spurt is over, you will grow much more slowly

It may do since your lifting about twice your weight apon your spin which may not immediantly stunt your growth.. it'll slow it down for sure.

Bench presses are best since you're not loading it onto your spin, it's on your shoulders and arms which in general move around .. that's what I do anyways.

It's an old wives tale--no truth to it. If it has any effect at all (doubtful), it's more likely to actually spur growth rather than stunt it. Most likely, you're pretty close to your maximum height.
