She said that once someone loses weight, that their skin doesn't stretch back, and it would be hanging off the now skinny person and that the only way to get the skin removed was through ---shudders--- surgery...

Is this true? If so, anyway to prevent it? Not getting fat, obviously, but I'm talking about ways to get your skin to stretch back WITHOUT surgery...I can't stand the thought of someone cutting me open...

I have a fear of dieing on an operating table...

If someone loses weight very quickly, like after weight loss surgery, then they tend to have hanging skin and need surgery to remove it. If you lose weight slowly, this shouldn't be a problem.

The statement your mother made is true only under certain circumstances:
1) if the person is very large and seriously overweight
2) if the person looses weight too fast for the skin to recover its plasticity.
If you are not too big, and if you loose weight slowly (1 to 2 lbs per week) you have nothing to worry about. Just start you new life style.
That is right, don't go into diets, everyone who goes into one gets back everything they lost sooner or later. We have to change our lifestyle, that is, the way we eat and exercise.
Exercise MUST be part of anyone's lifestyle if he/she wants to remain healthy and active.
Exercise helps the skin to be nourished by enough blood and not loose its ability to recover its former size.

This can happen. However, it doesn't happen to everyone.
You get more chances of happening if:
1) great amount of lost weight (maybe more than 50-80 lbs?)
2) weight loss happens too fast
3) your skin doesn't have enough elasticity
so avoid those. it also helps if you wear body shapers while you are losing the weight.

It depends on age and how fat a person is. Younger people have more elastic skin. It snaps back easier. But fat people's skin is stretched out and my need to be cut off. Watch Discovery Health.

The elasticity of the skin is key! If you tan all the time, your elasticity is severely weakened. Your age is definitely a factor. The loose skin happens when u lose too quickly. If you maintain toning & stretching exercises throughout, the skin will bounce back.
Eating large portions also stretches our stomachs! So keep portions to the size of your fist.

That happens if you are very overweight, if your weight problem is not that bad, there are special tight things to wear to prevent it while you loose the weight, plus exercise is the best for it, aerobic combines with weight training, and of course to loose the weight slowly without starving yourself, specially protein and vitamins.

Being at a healthy weight is still better than worrying about the fat hanging off!!! That is where exercise comes in, to firm up the skin when one is losing the fat.

ways to get your skin to stretch back without surgery is consuming plenty of protien and amino acids. this builds the elaticity of your skin and causes it to "spring back". of course, you have to make sure you eat healthy protien and not fatty protien. for instance, steak, be sure if you eat this type of protien, it's lean with little fat, cooked grilled or broiled, not fried.

thats not true... *sigh. dont worry.. thats just fake-science, like what you see in movies. your skin contracts and is always conforming to the endoderm layer. in other words just lose wait and forget about that.
