I am having all my wisdom teeth removed, one of which has grown in sideways into my mouth. What can I expect (pain-wise) following my procedure by an oral surgeon?

following extraction of your wisdom teeth you will experience a moderate degree of post-op sensitivity.
I am a dentist and when I remove wisdom teeth I usually will administer decadron into the iv prior to beginning the procedure which will help post-op. (decadron is a steroid). My patients will also have vicodin tablets given to them the pre-op appointment, use them immediately when you arrive home after the procedure. Apply ice to the area you have the surgery (20min on 20 min off) This sounds crazy but you can hold ice on both sides of your jaw with a bra. put ice in sandwich bags and then into the cups of the bra. strap on top of your head just don't let anyone see you or they Will take pictures of you and use them against you (this really works) Soft foods for 48 hours. Good luck you will do fine

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at the same time. All 4 were impacted and had to be cut through in order to be removed. My pain level the day of the procedure (after the drugs) was a 3 on a 10 scale. The next day it was a 5 on a 10 scale. But got A LOT better after that. Some people have it worse........ It all depends on how well you handle pain. Good luck.

Nope not everyone needs to, and your age if they are not a problem to you, and the dentist doesn't see any reason to then def not. My wisdom teeth didn't come out until I was past my teenage years, pretty sure 20's and I never once had a problem until they finally completely came out and were growing sideways, and the other two were impacted causing major pain.. but other than the pain i wouldn't have done anything.. It is true though if you have had braces or anything they can mess that up once they come out but the dentist would prob catch that soon enough to remove them too.. so long story short.. NOPE :)

I had my 2 top wisdoms removed many years ago and it was such a relief because they were in bad shape! It wasn't as painful as I thought it would be and they were also sideways like yours! Don't be afraid, the painkillers really do their work!

well they will most likely put you to sleep for the procedure so you won't feel anything at that point. afterwards thought they will definately be sore. this means eating and even if you get liquids in there it will hurt a little bit. Definately DO NOT smoke anything as this will give you dry rot and is extremely painful and in most cases become infected.

I had 3 of mine removed and it wasn't really painful, just kind of a weird feeling. Afterwards you have to keep gauze in your cheeks, and I don't recall any pain afterwards.
