I scored a 69 on the ASVAB [not sure whether it's a high score or not] and my point is, I want to join the service, I just haven't made my mind as to which one..

I was aiming for the Navy, but I was approached by a recruiter from the Army National Guard and was quite impressed with what he had to say. Most of the people I know in the service are with the Army.. so any suggestions as to which one would be the better branch to join? :O) thanks for your suggestions..

To be quite honest with ya babe, I can't really help on this one.

I couldn't join any cause I have authority problems and would be discharged in the first week.

I've had mates join the army and worked with a couple of ex navy guys.

I'd have to say the army sounded better to me but I also used to like blowing stuff up in the back yard as a kid.

Navy sounded OK but too long away from land and no way to sneak of base for an AWOL night on the town.

You take care of your little self regardless of which one you chose.

Depends on what you want. At least with the Army, you know where you will be stationed.

I don't know the technical training school requirements for the various ASVAB scores. I got a 97, and went into one of the top two schools in the Navy (Nuclear Power).

If you don't want to fight in Iraq, then I suggest going in the Navy. If you do want to go to Iraq, then join the Army National Guard. It's really your choice.

I think with only a 69, you may not get the best school in the Navy, but it should keep you from chipping paint for two years. Maybe navigation, or gunners mate, or something along those lines.

That is a pretty good score. In the Army, you can choose any job or MOS (Military Occupation) of your choice with that score. A lower score brings a limited choice of jobs. I am an Army Veteran, but I do not have any knowledge of the other branches to give you the best advice. The Army was tough! We use to joke that the Navy did their Basic Training at a Holiday Inn. So, I suppose the rumor is that the Navy is a bit more relaxed. Good luck with your decision. Be Well.

Yes, the ASVAB is timed and you can't use a calculator. The test isn't too bad but that depends on your test taking skills and general knowledge of various subjects. I recommend getting one of these prep books
It can make a big difference in how well you do since you'll know exactly what to expect on the test. The higher your score, the more opportunities you'll have and the better jobs you can qualify for so don't take the test lightly just because some people say it's easy. There's a big difference between doing okay and doing extremely well.

The prep/study book will get you used to the timing of the test so you know how long to spend on each question and get used to the time pressure you'll be under. They give you everything you need to know to do well. Good luck!

I got a 97 on my asvab, and it didnt make any difference other than i had my choice of everything but two schools, cause of the scoreing on the individual tests,

i was in the coast guard, but which ever choice you make, good luck and do your best and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did my time in my branch.

Go Navy unless you want to be in Iraq. I am active duty E-6 and having the time of my life. 8 years so far, wouldn't trade it for the world right now.
