Theoretically, Yes, it could be construed as a bad practice. If you and your family are consuming a weekly drink for a religious tradition or other cultural reason, in a controlled environment with family, it in THEORY should be ok.
If you have a drink once a week, alone without any parental input, this is different. Welcome to the American Legal system.... It is obvious that minors can not consume alcohol under the age of 21. I think that there are worse things that you or your friend could be doing or trying, but long term, there is a certain risk factor for dependency. I would say that it might be better to "take a break" from this activity for a while and focus on being a teenager. Easier said than done sometimes, but remember that you or your friend are still young and should enjoy what comes with being a young adult, and enjoy being an adult when you become one. Hope this makes some sense and helps answer your question.

It isn't the worst thing in the world...I think any parent would rather their child belt a few cups of Jungle Juice rather than a half-pack of Kools. But no, there will be little to no developmental issues. Addiction issues? Maybe. If a person at the age of 14 drinks a large quantity of drinks in one sitting once a week, there is a good chance at 21 when they can puchase it whenever they want that they will drink a lot more in a sitting.
Personally, I waited until I was 18 (still illegal, sadly) to drink regularly. I enjoyed the alcohol a lot more than at a younger age. I generally sought out beers and spirits based on quality, not quantity.
But no, drink on and be safe. When you turn 16 and can drive, DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!

No, I'm pretty positive that it is unhealthier to an adult liver to drink liquor once a week than it is to a adolescent. At that age the body has amazing regenerative powers. Socially it is unacceptable but society is ************ and misinformed most of the time anyways. If it makes you happy and you don't become an alcoholic then no.

It depends on what context you are speaking of. In many cultures - especially in Europe - wine is part of the culture and the families share a glass with dinner.
If you are speaking of any other alcohol or recreational uses, I do not see why a 14 year old would need to use this. There may be other, underlying issues that are causing this 14 year old to drink.

Hell no keep us kind alive. You'll be a drunk the time your my age which is 22 almost 23. I started with a few drinks a week since I was 16. Alachol is not bad unless you drink for all the wrong reasons like I've done for years.

Yes because I'm 14 and by the time your 20 your liver will be gone and you will need another one and besides you can do much better in your life than drinking. Because drinking only leads to bad things like rape, alcohism, drug absuse and other bad things so think about it the next time you pick up that bottle or cup

Of course it is! What kind of question is that. You get an early start of liver cancer and limiting your years already. Some teens have to admit they drink (myself) but not once a week. At least just on occasion and with your family and permission.

Of course. Wine might be accepatble depending on what country or culture your family is from. But liquor would be inappropriate.
