Most likely it is a papilloma. A non benign growth they cut off and send for a bioposy. Call and make a special appointment for the check of the area. It is nothing to worry about, but at the same time, it nothing to leave. Please make the appoinment asking your dental office if they do bioposy, if not have them refer you to a oral surgeon.

Mole On My Tongue

I'm a dentist.

At this point, it should be removed. To be totally honest, I'm a bit surprised that your doctor didn't suggest this, much less remove it himself. As a dentist, he should know that lesions on the tongue (especially if they're on the lateral border) should be biopsied--even if they don't appear to have changed in size. They can be cancerous.

At very least, the fact that it is bothersome to you is a good enough reason for it to be removed.

You should get a second opinion and look into laser mole removal, but it sound like a swollen taste bud, I have no idea what to do about that.

FUR BALL,
AS A DENTIST MYSELF, I TOO WOULD HAVE BIOPSIED THIS GROWTH. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS WRITE YOURSELF A NOTE TO READ TO THE FRONT DESK OR DENTAL ASSISTANT -- SO YOU DON'T FORGET TO ASK HIM DIRECTLY. IF THIS DOES NOT ACCOMPLISH YOUR GOAL BRING A FRIEND WITH YOU THAT WILL ACT AS YOUR ADVOCATE REGARDING THIS ISSUE.
OTHERWISE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH ANOTHER DENTIST AND MENTION THIS WHEN YOU FIRST CALL TO MAKE YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT.
