about 3 or 4 days ago i found a lump on the right side of my neck. at first i thought it was maybe just a tight muscle from sleeping wrong or something but it didnt hurt. ive come to the conclusion that its a swollen lymph node. however, i am not sick at all, not even a sore throat, and have not been sick in quite a while. i dont believe that i am coming down with anything either.

i dont think i have any cuts or abrasions or anything like that either. could it swell up for no reason? i dont have any swelling in the other side, groin or arm pits either.

im going to try to get to the health center tomorrow, but i was just curious as to what it might be from.

by the way im a healthy 19 year old female.

thank you

It's probably nothing to worry about. Even skin infections can cause enlarged lymph nodes. The main concern with an isolated enlarged lymph node is lymphoma. Usually an enlarged lymph node should just go away in about 4 weeks. Hope this helps =)

Maybe not a lymph node. Maybe a cyst. Is it hard?? Lymph nodes can get infected. It's a possibility. Lymph nodes also swell up due to inflammation, not just infection. Could you have swollen muscles? There is also a possibility that anything near that lymph node is infected. So, ear infection, throat, eye, nose.

You might have mono which affects all the glands and is pretty common at your age. Nothing to really worry about and the doctor can test you for mono although sometimes it doesn't show up in the blood work. If you have mono it just needs to run it's course but you can help by getting plenty of rest and eating well. There are no meds that help it much except maybe vitamin B shots that help the fatigue.

Who have you been kissing?
Mono.

Or it could be a mild infection.

Go to the docotr but don't spend your time worrying about it.
