I think that those Japanese who deny it are doing so to maintain face. This is an important part of their culture. When someone takes the face away from the Japanese, who are seen as a peace-loving people today and prefer to maintain that image, the shame the Japanese feel is too great. One must be careful, since there are many Japanese who admit the Nanjing Massacre, and many other of the Japanese military's wartime atrocities did occur.

I think its typical, The poor Japanese get bombed and everyone now seems to take pity on them. they should be apologizing and trying to make some sort of amends. But instead they don't teach their children anything about what their country did to others during the war. They even have the names of some of the soldiers who participated on the heroes list. There was no honor in it.

The Japanese should give aid to victims and orphans of the massacre and ask an apology resulting to deaths of many Chinese.

It's par for the Course for the Japanese, since the fifties they've tried to portray themselves as the Victims because of Hiroshima, doesnt wash with the Informed though.

Say sorry to the chinese people. (i dont think they did)
Besides, its not just nanjing. they obliterated most of the cities near the yellow river.
Deffinetly pay for the damages (at least some), and pay for orphanages.
Im sure china will forgive them if they pay for damages, and say sorry.(doubt it, but who knows)
