while i was marinating chicken on the counter, in three different bowls, our dog took one chicken breast from each bowl and within 3 days, we found a piece of chicken under each girls bed sheets. The girls didn't sleep in their own beds for 2 of those days, and by the time we found the third chicken breast..well, it was pretty bad. Any suggestions why the dog "stole" my chicken and "gave" them to my children?

wow this story is wonderful and your dog is awesome.

he took the chicken and hid them in ur children's bed sheets because

1. he wanted to eat the chicken but wanted to hide it first

or

2. like many people have said, he wanted to give the kids gifts. lol so cute

what kind of dog and how old?

its a little known fact that dogs, since the time of Moses, were given the responsibilty of being"chicken breast fairies", much like the fabled tooth fairy, the chicken breast fairy puts uncooked chicken breasts under the pillows of little girls that will one day have chicken breasts of their own.j/k its the dogs instinct to provide for the young and it felt that the children needed to eat and by putting the food where they slept, they would undoubtedly find the food before an adult would.don't punish the dog for this, just let the dog see you feeding the children.

That is a really cute story! I would have to say that the dog was either bringing them food because he wants to take care of them, or he was trying to hide them for himself.

I am leaning toward the gift since it was under their sheets. Since their beds are their own spaces, he probably thought it was a good way to be sure they were each getting some food.

awwww, sounds like your dog really loves your girls. just like a cat bringing a bird to your doorstep. i never scold my cats for doing it, because its sweet if you think about it from theyre point of view. imagine how much willpower it must have taken for your dog to give the chicken to the girls instead of wolfing it down. lol. you poor thing though, that must have been an awful mess.

it may be that you blame it for everything, so he is trying to put the blame on the kids so you do not shout at him any more?????
the real reason is instict! not instink! dogs in the wild always bury their food, to let it mature before they eat it, so not being able to dig outside he would of found the only feesable place to hide it, in the wild it would never be buried together hence the three places,

Thats pretty gross.... but very sweet. Sounds like to me, the dog wanted to share with the kids. My dog used to hide his dog bone in my over night bag when I would go out of town. I think you dog is just telliing the kids he loves them. (in his own dog way)

Most dogs do things to show their affection. Its very possible that they were trying to bring a gift if you will. What breed is the dog?

Your dog considers your children his pack. He was storing food for when they came home. He probably thought they were gone because there might be no food, he missed them.
You could consider it a gift from him to your girls.
Stinky but so sweet.

He probably thought that it was a safe place to hide his treasure, my dogs are always hiding treats that I give them, I find them in the strangest places.
I hope it wasn't too hard to clean up!
