i have a 98 mustang, and everytime i rev up the engine it burns out the fuel pump fuse, its the first slot to the left in the fuse box next to the batterie. i think it is the fuel pump fuse, im going by a diagram of a 99, the 98 diagram i keep looking at doesnt look like mine. what seems to be the problem, is the fuel pump giving out, or is there something wrong with the fuse box. could i just put a wire instead of the fuse for now? please help before i cause a fire! j/k thanks

Many pumps that have suffered a partial seizure or pressure overload by a blocked fuel filter will draw more amps and will continually blow fuses. Therefore, (unfortunately) it is common practice to replace the fuse with a larger fuse in the pump circuit to force the pump into operation. This can cause excessive current draw and higher than normal temperatures within the pump, melting the brush cover assembly and damaging the vehicle wiring and something no one discovered yet, is the fuel pump relay contact points burning causing a voltage drop to the pump.
Anyway, do not replace the fuse with a higher amperage fuse as this will induce further problems. I would suspect a plugged fuel filter which can cause a overheating, so start by replacing your fuel filter.
Good luck.

What is the build date of the mustang? It's on the label that is on the drivers door frame or on the door itself.

Don't put a wire or a bigger fuse or you will find out how hot a mustang can really get (with a fire)

possible pump seizing but never saw one yet only on reving the engine... but I would need to have more information as usually the fuse controls more than just that fuel pump... Possible relay module under right front fender as they have a habit of doing weird stuff including shorting

Do not wire the fuse or put in a larger fuse. Have an auto tech put a ammeter before the fuse and see if the pump draws excessive current on start. Compare the readings from the stats on the fuel pump motor in your Ford book or from Ford parts man. My bet is the pump motor is old and draws to much current.

Unless you prefer a vehicle fire to a blown fuse, never defeat a fuse or put in one bigger than called for. The lid of the box should have the diagram of what fuse is which. If it is the fuel pump fuse, and it blows, the fuel pump is drawing excess current and is probably on the verge of failure.

Get your self a Haynes variety guide on your particular vehicle. they are very special. The e book is truly well worth the 15 money. gasoline injection calls for prime stress. the swifter your engine turns the more suitable gasoline is needed. It does no longer be a nasty theory to attempt your gasoline pump. All you want is a multi meter. you are able to get one for below 20 money at any vehicle area save. i'm assuming the vehicle isn't changed. I particularly have heard of people utilizing any fuse it truly is on even as the major's contained in the on position for an amplifier turn on lead. i imagine it truly is the position i could start up and the e book will handbook you from there. usually even as a fuse blows more suitable than once there's a issue. they are protection gadgets. i wish this enables and reliable luck.

You could have the wrong fuse installed or the fuel pump is going bad, also could be a wiring problem.
