Not necessarily but I do because I do not want to risk it going down the drain.

No, you don't have to. Diamonds are tough, you aren't going to hurt your stone. You should get your ring insured, though. It will cover it if a diamond falls out of the setting during normal daily activities. I take my ring off in the shower. Only because it is a tad too big. I'd rather take it off for the shower then let the jeweler keep it for a week to size it down!! haha!

I keep my engagement ring on while I sleep and shower. I do this because I am very forgetful and I don't even want to think about loosing it. I do, however, take it off when I lift weights at the gym, because the bottom part of the band will get scratched.

I only take my engagement ring off if I am doing my hair and putting product in it. I don't want mousse or gel getting into the prongs and garbaging up my ring. If you do take it off, be sure to put it in a secure spot and put it back on right away. I say this because I have taken mine off to do my hair, left the room, and then totally wigged out when I didn't have it on my hand. I put it in a safe spot and always the same spot so I know immediately where to get it.

No, but I also see no reason to leave them on. It's not like the moment you take them off the commitment goes away. If you take your rings off to shower you won't have the risk of it slipping off, or a loose setting causing the stone to go down the drain. Sleep....you could scratch yourself if you leave them on.
I suppose it is a personal choice. I take my rings off when I'm in the house, and put them on when I leave the house.

I don't, but then I don't sleep with that hand under my face.. if i did I'd consider it, or I'd have a dent in my face the next day.
If you do.. you might consider those little ring holders. I put other rings on it.. I too, have gone bonkers trying to remember where I have put a ring.. since I got that for a gift, I make it a habit to put the ring I'm taking off on it.

I never take mine off!!
Although I did read recently when I was in Days Jewelers (local jewelery store here in Maine) that you shouldn't wear rings (or any jewelery for that matter) into the pool or any place that has chlorine. It does some major damage to the metal. So starting this summer...I will be taking off my rings before getting into the pool!

There are certain activities that would warrant the removal of your engagement ring. Gardening, when your hands will be in harsh liquid, rough activities, etc.
Showering or sleeping would be fine. But then you need to be careful of soap buildup, too. And be sure to remove it when applying any handcream or lotion.

No, I never take mine off...that is how you lose your ring. I have heard so many horror stories of women taking off their ring and then it falls down the drain or falls into the tiolet and it gets flushed...just keep it on at all times

You don't have to but I do. A ring is a symbol of our love but your hearts know that you are married and bad luck won't come to you if you take it off. Just make sure you put it in a safe place where it won't get lost.
