I'm not talking about the "Dora" weapon. I remember seeing somewhere that the German's in WW II either constructed or planned to construct a gun that's barrel was super long and went up the side of a mountain. The barrel also had intakes which would inject more gas as the shell moved through the barrell to increas its speed. Does anyone have any idea what this thing might have been? Thanks.

Also, it wasn't a rail gun... more like a fixed installation. I'm pretty sure the allies bombed its construction site as well.

the v3 project

it was a subterranean gun designed to bombard London.

the Brits discovered the plans and launched a raid intended to drop a bomb down the barrel of the cannon, it succeeded.

a bomb fell though one of the barrels and exploded deep underground destroying the weapon and the Germans abandoned the project because the allies were approaching.

I don't think they ever built it, but they planned it. The problem with giant guns is they are diffucult ot build, impossible to move and require enourmous crews. I think the largest gun they built had a General as the gun captain, and a crew of 250. At that point they realized that the economics of scale was such that the money could be spent on a whole lot of airplanes and bombs instead (athough I'm sure the army and air force had a lot of debate on the subject).
