I need to get a different boot loader for windows xp. i installed Linux and now i want to remove it. When i try to, i get grub error message. I cant get back to the windows boot loader using fdisk because i don't know how, so now im stuck with Linux's boot loader.

Any help would be great.
Thanks

my recover cd when iserted tells me this
press q to boot to hard drive or
press r for recovery.
when i press r it takes me into recovery and only gives two options backup and reinstall and destructive reinstall. i chose the first and i still had the same problem ive been trying to work this out for a week now and its getting on my nerves.

First it would be helpful to know which Linux distro you are using.

Here is a link for Debian dual booting. http://www.aboutdebian.com/dualboot.htm

Here is a link for uninstalling SuSe. http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:How_to_Uninstall_Linux

Here is a link for uninstalling that is not distro specific. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mosaddique/Dual-Boot%20remove%20Linux%20or%20Windows.html

I hope this helps. I'm not sure what kind of problems you are having, so it's difficult to give more suggestions. If this was your first attempt at using Linux I would hope that you don't give up. Most people try 3 or more distributions before they find one they like and are comfortable with. I didn't like SuSe much the first time I installed it, so I tried Red Hat and liked it even less. A few years later I installed a newer version of SuSe and liked it more but it still wasn't what I wanted. I now have Xandros installed and really enjoy using it. I plan to buy a copy of Mandriva soon so I can get LinDVD. Who knows maybe Mandriva will become my new favorite or maybe I'll stick with Xandros. The point is each distro is so unique you can't judge them all based on one bad experience.

If you need more help or have more questions feel free to e-mail me.

Good Luck.

Use the windows xp cd and boot from it like you are installing. It will come up with some option like there is an OS detected bla bla. It will say hit R for recovery console. Do this. You will get a dos prompt and you will need to log in as administrator.

In the shell type
FIXBOOT

then hit enter

then type FIXMBR

hit enter.
You should be fine then.

just pop the windows xp in the drive restart over ..restart the computer then format and reinstall windows xp with your windows xp cd have have the drivers cd with you as your need to reinstall the drivers when you format back up your saved work & files first before you format back them up onto cd
