One of our cats had a licking obsession. We took her to the vet and he said she had a flea allergy. So any time she got bit by a flea, even if it was just one bite, she would develop a slight rash underneath her coat. The irritation of that was what caused the licking.
As far as her hiding out in the basement, I think that just means you have a really skiddish cat who is nervous around people. We also have a cat like that. I'm not sure there's any kind of way to help her be more social, other than just be really nice to her, give her lots of attention and speak kindly whenever you talk to her. She'll probably warm up to you eventually and want to be with you more than hide in the basement.

Your cat's not crazy, maybe she just a little wild.Did you gave her a lot of affection when she was little? If not she has come to the point where she doesn't care if she gets any or not. Try hand feeding her and petting her at the same time this will win her trust in you but she will probable never trust anyone who she doesn't know and will hide from them even if your there.

I think this one is like its owner. you start acting normal to it cats always clean and preen themselves, she is just showing you bet you can't do that, if it was crazy you would know, start by giving it a bit of time and consious effort every day so it knows you are ok with it, give its food the same time every day, and sit by it so it has to come to you, ifshe has the basement to herself then close the door if you can when it is out of there, so she can not hide, any more, it will take time and patience, good luck

No, your cat is not "crazy" - just suffering from an anxiety disorder. And...
Yes, there are meds and herbal aids to help anxiety and stress-related behavioral problems in cats. I think your kitty is has anxiety issues. He can be helped by any one of the following:
(1) Feliway is a "friendly pheromone, developed by Farnam, Inc. It mimics the facial pheremones cats use to mark territory. Feliway was originally developed to discourage urine marking by cats, since it is believed cats will not "spray" areas they have previously marked with facial pheromones. It is also believed to be effective in reducing other stress-related behaviors. Comfort Zone, with Feliway, is a wall plug-in which diffuses the pheromone throughout a room.
(2) Homeopathic Remedies: There are a number of commercially prepared homeopathic remedies available, said to relieve stress in pets. Ideally, if you have a homeopathic practitioner in your area, a preparation should be individualized to your own cat's needs.
(3) "Rescue Remedy" is a Bach Flower Essence, which are tinctures of flowers in an alcohol or other base. It is named for Dr. Edward Bach, a British physician, who developed his flower essences in the early 1930s. Rescue Remedy is developed from five flowers, and is extremely effective in the relief of stress or trauma, both in humans and in animals. Two or three drops in a bowl of water often provide quick relief. The Cats Forum members who have tried Rescue Remedy on their cats, swear by its effectiveness.
(4) Catnip. Some skittish cats have been helped by regular catnip-sniffing. If your cat is responsive to catnip (some cats are not), he may benefit from the "feel good" thing catnip gives to cats.

Licking herself is just bathing. That's how then clean themselves- it's perfectly normal. Cats are cleaner then many humans...
And she may have kittens down there. Mothers refuse to stray far from their offspring...
Your cat sounds pretty normal to me, the basement thing may just be her preference. Especially if it's ht upstairs.

no. you must have someone real loud about how they talk and move towards the cat. not a cat lover. could be how dirty the house is or the quality of the air. cats like long hours in the dark. it is good for their senses. don't medicate it and turn pets as tortured as humans.

We used to have a multi aspect cat tree (floor to ceiling type) and it had a mouse on a stretchy string putting from the genuine. one among my cats used to snatch the mouse and stretch it throughout the residing room until eventually she lost her grip and it went flying again throughout the room to smack into the wall. faster or later she did that and one among our different cats jumped on a platform. even as Morph enable the mouse flow it smacked the different cat contained in the butt and, properly i don't think of i have ever seen her bounce so severe!
