Because sometimes the President has to act like your parents. Sometimes what you want to do and what is good for you are two different things.
Remember that what got us 9/11 was a President who did what was popular instead of what was necessary.
Besides - the people who know what they are talking about (the troops who either are in or have served in Iraq) tend to support what is going on.
Why are you listening to a bunch of political pundits who have never set foot in Iraq instead of the troops who have been there?

The American people are not sending more troops to Iraq, the President is doing that piece of work, the people want the troops home, yesterday! The only way to stop the troops from being sent is to cut off funding & congress is not ready to put the troops already there in jepordy by not providing the money to enable them to defend themselves until we can bring them home!

The American people voted for Bush a few years back now...remember? So the way it works is that I personally, as an American citizen, didn't send out more troops yesterday, or the day before. See? I didn't personally call and say, "Hey, let us send out more troops!"...see how that works? Also, in case you have any other illusions, I can not personally call Prez GW and tell him I think he is a ninny and to bring home my cousin. It just doesn't work that way. I can't ring his phone or his doorbell and order him to immediately do anything...
Are you an ignorant non-American or an ignorant adolescent with a computer?

Because it's not up to the American citizens to vote on this. It's the President's decision. He is the Commander in Chief and has say of the military decisions. We can protest all we want and call him all sorts of names, but if the President orders more soliders to go to Iraq to fight the terrorists and train the Iraqian military and help to start rebuild their country, then more American soliders go over. President Bush isn't just making this huge decision all on his own. Being president isn't an easy job, people! He is making big decisions 24/7 for at least 4 years and knowing that these decisions will impact the future. With every president that is elected into office, there is always millions that don't agree with him, but we still need to support his duties and understand that there's more to it than we know.

Hon, the American citizens want our moms, dads, children, brothers, sisters, etc. home. It's the dumb-as* government that keeps sending more troops, because the gov't is so dam*ed worried about the oil, the resouces, etc that Afghanistan and all that over there offers. Our american troops, at least to our gov't, are expendible. The gov't doesn't care about our people-look at the homeless situation, the poverty, the hungry kids here in America! The gov't doesn't give a shi* about its' own people.

It's all a big scam. The Democrats could put a stop to the war this very minute, since Congress, which is controlled by the Democrats, controls the military's operating budget.
The Democrats want to keep it going as long as possible so they can blame everything that is wrong in the world on President Bush.

This is the same principle that applied to the A bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WW 2. These 2 bombs killed thousands of the people there but ACTUALLY SAVED probably millions if the USA would have had to invade Japan.

Because Bush, having war-time presidential powers, is a neanderthal, idiot that hasn't learned yet that his cowboy method of diplomacy is causing more troubles than good.
Basically he has decided that he alone knows better than the rest of America and the rest of the world...

Because the American people don't make the laws, and don't control the miltary. Congress and the President does, respectively.
As long as the President has funding and a valid Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF), his role as Commander in Chief allows him to decide who gets sent.
Only Congress can decide the funding, or rescind the AUMF.
