I had heard that the only way to become an officer was to go to college and then try out for OCS. But because I'm enlisting right now I won't be able to go to college. so I was wondering if there was a way I could go from enlisted to officer without a degree. or if they had a program for me to somehow get a degree while enlisted. MY MOS is 11C.

I was able to complete my degree while serving as a enlisted soldier. It takes dedication to let your buddies go out drinking, while you go to school at night. The military has a great program, as you can get credits for your military training.
You have to check and see what the requirements are to consideration to OCS. Then there is always the Warrant Officer program.

It takes dedication to be in the Infantry, keep working and you will get your degree.

The Green to Gold Program is still viable according to the Cadet Command website.

Officer Candidate School (OCS) is the most viable for you right now, however, you can't attend the Officer Basic Course without a degree. It used to be that you could be commissioned without a degree but since you could not go to the basic course, you were a fifth wheel (non deployable and out in 3 years).

The bottom line is that you have to attend the Advance Camp at Fort Lewis (there are a few exceptions) between your Junior & Senior year of college to be commissioned.

If you complete your first term in and get out and have a minimum of 60 credits, you can become a Junior (Level III) in ROTC when you enroll in college. There is the SMP program where you join a Reserve Component unit at the same time and get paid for weekend drills.

I recommend that you use CLEP or Dantes to "knock out" the easier classes (History 101 etc...) to speed up your degree completion.

There are two programs that allow an enlisted soldier to become commissioned.

The first is Green to Gold, in which the Army will send you to college where you will be in the ROTC and train with a Reserve or Guard unit as well. It requires a recommendation from your CO and then a whole bunch of endorsements from other Officers and an extremely high GT score.

The second is OCS which requires no college, but the same recommendations and endorsements, as well as a bunch of boards. College can help you, but it is not required.

Someone else just informed me that they may have done away with the Green to Gold Program. Not sure if it's true or not. However OCS is still a viable option for sure.

Yes.

You are correct. It is called OCS - Officer Candidate School. You need to acquire 60 credit hours to attend. Btw, it's not as hard as it sounds. You can go to a community college and get it. Plus that's a lot cheaper...

The Army provides for enlisted personnel to become officers as long as they go to college and be included in the promotions for officers.
