I took some film in to be developed and they told me it had been exposed. These are very special pics. Is there anything that can be done?

when you take a photo your exposing the film.Do you mean that you open the back without rewinding the film?
If it's still in the camera the film at the beginning of the roll can be salvageable. If the hole roll has been expose by opening the back then, no.

Unfortunatly, no. Exposed film is lost for good.

No, essentially they have already been developed by the light exposure and will come out as a black square.
