After a recent listing of all airliners in service, ( a380 not fully into service yet) the fastest airframe used today is the Boeing 777 which is "reported" to travel around 550 mph. Funny as it is, the second fastest airframe in service is actually a regional jet. The CRJ 700-900 is "reported" to fly only 11 mph slower than the 777.

Actually, the biggest a/c in terms of max gross takeoff weight would be the Antonov AN-225 transport at 600,000 kg. (The A-380 is about 10, 000 kg. less.

"Most safe" is difficult to quantify with statistical validity. However, in terms of how much jeopardy an aircraft puts its manufacturer in, the A-380 is far from the safest.

Safest, that is tough to answer since the biggest threat to your safety on an airplane is human error... the biggest is the 747 which will be beat by the A380 unfortunatly... and fastest big pax. airplane is the 747... cruises at Mach .85... approx 480 mph

An aircraft is only as safe as the maintainence carried out and the way the pilot flies it. If you keep it within the flight envelope then all aicraft are safe. It then come sown to the skill and training the pilot has recieved. As for the best aircraft, it depends on the role it is designed for. An "Edge 540" is the best for aerobatics!
