beer is beer, wine is wine, and spirits is hard liquor, ie, vodka, rum, whiskey and such. Hope this helped.

Spirits is short for Spirituous Liquor, meaning a distilled alcoholic beverage as opposed to one produced by simple fermentation.

Wine - an alcoholic drink made from fruit, usually grapes
Spirits - usually liquor
