For dry ingredients: fill the cup to heaping, then take the straight edge of a knife and measure across, eliminating all the extra on top. You should have a level cup of dry ingredients.
For liquid ingredients: (IMPORTANT!!) Use a clear liquid measuring cup and sit on level surface where you can see the markings. Pour the liquid to the desired level. Make sure you eye is exactly level with the marking on the cup or else you measurement will be off.

practice, use a mixing bowl that you would use often, get a measuring cup for 1 cup and fill it up with soilds and pour in the bowl and see what it looks like, then after you do that few time you will probably be able to eyeball it with other tools. If you talking about fluids use a fluid measuring cup for 1 cup and then do smiliar routine until your eyes/mind learn the amount of the products you need with out the measuring cups/tools although it is more safe to use the tools to be more accurate.

Are you actually saying you do not have a measuring cup? Can't buy one, borrow one? Then I guess you are out of luck, Chuck.
