Cabs, at least 15%, same with Super Shuttle and the like, doorman that get a cab for you, $1-$2, maids, $2 a day (best to tip daily, she'll take better care of you), bell boys, $2-$3 per bag, extra if he takes time to show you around, get ice, etc. Room service tip is generally included and will state so on in room service menu, restaurant servers, 15- 20%.
All tipping is based on good service, less for poor, more for excellent. It can get a bit spendy, but, that's NYC!

Yea, 10-15% is usually good enough. If something is only 10-20 bux, give a solid 3 anyways.

Always double the tax at restaurants...Cabs, round up and add $2...and dont' worry you won't get mugged in NYC...Its very safe...And you'll be staying in the tourist areas.

5 to 10 US Dollars. But when you go out to walk alone, please be careful and always carry with you at least 25 to 50 US dollars on your person. Otherwise when you are mugged and if they do not get any money, the muggers can get very angry and can even kill you. In fact, the NYPD also advises you to do this. Good luck.
