There's a really bad strain of a stomach virus going around right now. So far our family has been lucky, but I just found out that I am pregnant and I have a son who is one. I want to know the best ways to prevent getting the virus. I know washing the hands and steering clear of sick people is the obvious, but any other ideas on how to prevent it?

Sometimes its hard to prevent. Once the kids get it it goes around the whole house. Ginger tea is good for stomach problems, vomitting, diarhhea. But since your preganant, you have to be careful. Keep him hydrated with popsicles, pedialyte. Try telling your son about handwashing, not touching certain things , not sitting on everyone toilets. Wash your food, at school and for yourself use a papertowel to turn on the facet, and to turn off the facet. Think about it your not touching anything.

Thousands of cases of stomach viruses are not a virus; it's food poisoning; make sure that you wash your meats, (not hamburger), veggies, and fruits.

I use a product called Veggie Wash that I find at Raleys. It's amazing how nice veggies and fruits look after using it.

DONT' buy bagged veggies and salads. According to the CDC they are one of the highest spreaders of E. Coli. All they do is fill the bag with nitrogen to hopefully kill the bacteria; they also use the worst of the veggies for it.

Try not to eat out very much. If you think the famous video of Rats running around a taco bell in a ritzy neighborhood in NY is an isolated incident, your wrong. My uncle works for the health department and he refuses to eat in a restaurant or fast food place. They get away with a lot.

Good luck on your child and stay healthy.

Quit slipping strangers the tongue for starters. I got that stuff and was throwing up and shatting myself for 2 days! Not cool in the slightest. I could've crapped thru a strainer man! Avoid that stuff at all costs...
