Hi! I have a dog named Bamboo. He's been with us for more than 15 years, I was still in grade school then. He's just a street dog but then he's very smart the whole family as well as all our neighbors love him. When I'm going outside he usually accompanies me as if he really thinks as we are. He also joins me during breakfast and loves it when I feed him. Totally sweet!
But now, I'm a bit worried about his condition, for a week he hasn't been eating anything and usually stays outdoor to sleep. He seems very weak. We have been giving him medicines but it seems that it doesn't work. We also force to feed him. We tried everything we give him milk, feeding him through bottles, We also gave him sugar, vet says it's good for dogs coz he might have fed on something that is toxic. But His breathing is very deep as if he has asthma. Is this has something to do with his heart? He is really big. Any Alternatives? Please help I don't want to lose him!

Gosh... I don't think I can handle losing him. My mother also says so and I became mad. I told her I'm not going to give up!
Hope I can have some help there. But thanks a lot for comforting words from all of you guys!!

I would say its old age, but all these people in here saying to put him to sleep cause hes old, wonders if they would put there grama to sleep just cause she old can't eat can't do this ect take the dog to the vet let the vet help you diagnos the dogs problem. Let the dog die naturally maybe give him a pain killer or something. Just love him for all the cherished moments you have left you never know he might stand up and give you a nice dogy kiss telling you im all right.. Remember we all will see our pets again some day .

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.

There is always food and water, and warm Spring weather. Those old and frail animals are young again. Those who have been maimed are made whole again.

They play all day with each other. But there is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring, and this one suddenly runs from the group.

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

Does the dog drink water?..... if so, then he still has a better chance of survival if his ailment isn't life threatening. Dogs have a very keen sense of self and yours maybe staying away from food because he has a digestive ailment by possibly eating something bad. Most dogs pant and have dry noses when they are extremely sick.... so check for those two things. Are his eyes still bright??? or cloudy & sickly looking? Bright eyes and still drinking water are a very good sign that he'll get better soon. If his ailment is old age... he will begin to lose his bowels uncontrollably.... if this is the case... he doesn't have long to live, unfortunately, and it would be humane to put him to sleep instead of letting him suffer. Cloudy eyes... not drinking water.... losing control of his bowels are all signs he will not be around very much longer, other wise, keep him dry & warm ( if it's cold out) or shaded if it's hot out... keep an eye on him but let him rest and hopefully he'll be better in a few more days.

Unfortunatly this is with out a doubt the HARDEST part of being a dog owner :(
It sound's like olde age is catching up to you'r guy..
Their's not much you can do for him other than let him go with dignaty..
Don't let him die all alone in the back yard..
Take some time (all you'r family should do this) to say good bye & put him down..
It sound's like you really love & care about him & 15 yr's is a heck of a good long life for any dog...
I've ben their before & it's the hardest thing to hear but for him do the right thing..
And when the time's right head down to you'r local shelter & fill that place in you'r heart...
BEST OF LUCK TOO YOU & TAKE CARE

I know that I'll will get alot of thumbs down for this but honestly I think it is his time to go. I know the loss of a beloved pet is hard....I've dealt with many losses and I'm sorry that you have to go with it now. If the medicein don't help than I really think that it is his time to go. Wow, 15 years old?!?! Bamboo has lived a very long and to me it seems enjoyable life.

Good Luck and I'm terribly sorry about what your going through.

I questioned if i could want to step in like I even have finished earlier yet I wasn't particular if i could want to maintain doing that. i think of of that it may be extra desirable valuable if all those question weren't spoke back yet on the various hand many of the responses could have made the guy think of of. You ask why this way of habit is displayed? i could say this is the two via way of actuality the guy is hating or they're attempting to pay lower back evil for evil, the two way this is despicable. i do now no longer understand if there is somewhat a answer for this or now no longer. Sounds like your dog has led a very long but good life with you and your family but, sad to say, you better just do the best for him but still prepare yourself for him to leave. Unless he is in pain or suffering just let him go naturally. I would not have my dog put to sleep unless it was really necessary.
Wishing the best for you and your dog.

we have had many dogs come and go in this family. corky hit by car . oscar old age 18.years old. bridget 16. all were part of our family . but as do your real family they can't live for ever . i dont want to sound mean but to prolong the passing of a pet in the manner is cruel . and you must understand that your pet by not eating and separating himself from you is his way of telling you it is his time to go and that he is ready. i know that this is not what you want to hear but , this is the way it is if you truly love your dog . then you'll let him go in a good way and not make him suffer . please look into his eyes and he will tell you what to do . just remember that he is always with you in your memories ..

It doesn't sound good for your dog. I give asthma medication to my cat but I don't know that your dog is healthy enough to use asthma medicine..

Ask your vet but it may be that your Bamboo is too old for much more treatment.

from past experience, could be heart, respiratory infection, heartworms or any number of lung or heart related problems. He could also have allergies. your best bet is to consult a clinic for pets. may cost a little money, but you might save the one that you love and that loves you .
