Parable. Interpret figuratively after you determine the symbolism behind the literal allusions.

It is a parable of the wicked husbandmen or the wicked vinedressers are a parable of Israel. It is figuratively written, but literally interpreted as the prophets that God sent to Israel(Old Testament prophets & John the Baptist) and finally God sent His Son Jesus Christ and they rejected and beat and finally killed the Owner's Son. Jerusalem's destruction in A.D. 70 was a partial fulfillment of this, but the final fulfillment will be Apocalyptic when Satan is finally thrown into the Lake of Fire. We don't wrestle against flesh and blood.

It's a parable, Mark 12:1 tells the reader it is. We should interpret it figuratively.

It's as plain as the nose on your face.
A parable is meant to have meaning to those who relate to it. For them, it can be taken literally, as shown in the passage.
The chief priests, the scribbes and the elders were all angered because they knew Jesus was talking about them.
Mark 11:27 & 12:12-17

The scripture seems to be talking about Israel, rejecting the prophets God has sent, killing the prohets God has sent, and finally killing his son. The others who receive the vineyard are then the Gentiles. The stone that was rejected is Jesus Christ, but God has made him the cornerstone of the church

Remember that Mark 11:27 says that Jesus was talking in front of the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders, in other words the contollers of the religion.

Mark 12:12 says that they knew Jesus was talking about them.

If actually, Jesus is a liar. except, of course, we predict (with some) that the Son of guy DID are available in his kingdom in the lifetimes of people who stood listening. lots for the "apocalyptic" section. something of the passage is prevalent eastern holy guy talk. Denial of the ego, immersion of the decrease existence interior the better, etc. So i assume you will possibly say "figuratively" there.

It depends - what do you want it to be.

That's the only way I've ever seen it be determined. Whatever way supports your faith more.

I would think everything should be taken at face value first and foremost. But that's probably making it too simple.
