okay so yesterday i had went to solo ensamble (for those of you who don't know what it is it's a thing where you sing in front of a judge in a little room)
she gave me a 2 out of a possibe 5, 1 being the best.

i was really mad because i've been working on my song for almost two months and it was almost perfect.
i had great posture and diction and the only thing that i was bad at was my breath support.
even my voice coach/accompanist and my choir teacher said i deserved a 1.

Everyone is going to have a different opinion on your vocal skills. As a judge myself, I know that I sometimes look for different things than other judges. Music judging is very opinionated. Have you seen the judging sheet? If the judge doesn't have comments to support your rating than you can have your director ask for a review from the contest manager. Don't let one persons opinion get you down. What matters most is how you felt about your performance when you were finished. Realize that the rating was just one persons opinion. Also some judges tend to feel that a 2 rating is for very good performances and 1's are for those that completly blow them away. Hopefully your judge was consistant with their ratings throughout the day. Again, don't let it bother you to much and keep on doing the best that you can.

Judging is subjective. I know that it may not seem fair. Maybe if you had been scored by a different judge, you would have gotten a 1. To the people above me, you do not have to be perfect to get a 1. No one performs perfectly, and lots of people get 1's. I had a violin student of mine receive a 2 this year that was completely undeserved. She went near the beginning of the day, and when I looked at the scores at the end of the day and compared it to what I heard, it was clear that the judge had eased up a lot as the day went on. Maybe you just got an uptight judge. I would say to prepare yourself so well next year that it doesn't matter what judge you get.

No, it's fair

It does not matter how long you study something it only matters HOW you studied it. It was your responsibility to improve your weak points to make them level with your strong. I'm sorry you worked so hard on the wrong thing.

But, I can't really judge this without hearing you.

Besides, even you said it was almost perfect. A "2" is an almost perfect score.

I have two children who have been participating in solo/ensembles for seven years. Usually their performances earn them a 1* (it allows them to attend a statewide solo/enesemble). A few times they received a 2 and I thought the judge was having a bad day. I thought they had nailed their performances, but weren't given a fair score.

I'm sure you did great. Try to comfort yourself in what others have said. In your career there will be those who just refuse to be pleased, even in the presence of greatness.

No, and you should listen to them instead of feel sorry for yourself. I'm sorry, I've been singing for a long time and you got it easy as far as I'm concerned. It sounds like you were 'ajudgicated' as we call it in the professional world. Come on....
I do understand that you feel hurt but consider it an opportunity to learn especially if you have real promise.....don't blow it...........please.....You can have great diction and posture but it does not save your voice. You don't go through these types of things for nothing, learn something...........Best to you. It WAS absolutely fair.

Its not the end of the world. Learn from what the judge had to say and try to improve those areas where she thought you were weak.

Sad bu true. life is not fair. Learn to live with It

Each judge at these things have particular points which they think are most important- sorry, but you got the breathing judge.

By your own admission, it was "ALMOST" perfect. If a score of 1 is the absolute best, and even you feel that it wasn't perfection, why should the judge give you a perfect score?

Unfortunately, arts are a subjective matter. The judge gave you what she thought you deserved.

I personally have not liked most of the "American Idol" winners, but they win the vote by what most of the people want to hear.
